- "Right, I'm sure where you came from, Ga-Matoran are all gentle peacemakers who never raise their voices. That's what they ... we ... were like where I came from too. But I have news for you, sister — this isn’t Metru Nui. We don’t have time to be polite. It's fight, or end up like them"
- ―Dalu to Toa Inika Hahli, Power Play
Dalu was a Ga-Matoran and member of the Voya Nui Resistance Team.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Like all Ga-Matoran, Dalu came into being on Spherus Magna, where she was placed in the Matoran Universe. Not much is known about Dalu or her original home island, but it is known that she was sent to the Realm of Karzahni for an unclear reason. Whether or not she was sent there for repairs, was banished there, or was one of the Matoran from Lesovikk's homeland, remains to be confirmed.
When Dalu arrived in Karzahni, she was presumably forced to surrender her Kanohi and any tools she wielded. Rebuilt into a weaker form, Dalu was fitted with a Powerless Rau and gifted a pair of Chargers before being shipped to the island of Voya Nui by Karzahni, who felt great shame at his inability to properly repair the Matoran sent to him.
Voya Nui[]
Landing in the Southern Continent, Dalu and her fellow Matoran became some of the earliest settlers of Voya Nui, a village on the outskirts of Mount Valmai.
1000 years ago, the Brotherhood of Makuta launched an unexpected assault upon the core processor of the Matoran Universe, disabling Mata Nui and causing the Great Spirit Robot to crash. Rocked by universal tectonic activity, Dalu's adoptive homeland broke off from the Southern Continent landmass and was ejected entirely from its dome, coming to rest on the surface of Aqua Magna, bringing with it both the villages of Voya Nui and Mahri Nui and killing Turaga Jovan. Robbed of their leader and without the protection of Toa, the Matoran of the two villages struggled to survive in their new circumstance. After a brief period of cohabitation between the Matoran of Voya Nui and Mahri Nui, however, the island was once again ravaged by cataclysm, causing Mahri Nui to break off and sink into the ocean.
Roughly 500 years ago, Voya Nui was rocked by an intense storm for the first time since its formation. Without the Southern Continent to shelter the landmass, the Matoran of the settlement were besieged by the elements. Dalu was one of several Matoran to lead the villagers to safety in the Nui Caves before attempting to rebuild.
Race for the Mask of Life[]
Months after the defeat of Makuta Teridax on Mata Nui, six Skakdi would travel to the shores of Voya Nui intent on stealing the Kanohi Ignika. Met initially with skepticism, Dalu approached Vezok for advice, believing him to be a wise Toa who could help her find inner peace. After a brief interaction in which Vezok suggested she hunt down and kill her local Turaga, however, Dalu came to harbor her own suspicions. Despite this, the six false-Toa would ultimately come to convince the larger Matoran community of their virtuous intentions.
Tasked with acting as a lookout while Balta and Velika reverse-engineered a Zamor Launcher stolen from the false Toa, Dalu caught sight of Avak approaching the Matoran Hideaway. Using her Chargers, Dalu was able to disrupt the intruder's senses enough to repel him, though the experience caused her to lapse into unconsciousness.
When Dalu regained cognizance, Velika and Balta informed her that their findings proved the newcomers were present upon the island for a darker purpose. Promptly after this revelation, the Skakdi revealed themselves to be a group of ex-Dark Hunters known as the Piraka and used Zamor Launchers to enslave the local Matoran population, with Dalu managing to evade capture, alongside Balta, Garan, Piruk, Velika and Kazi.
With the Toa Nuva arriving on the island shortly afterward, Dalu's cohorts mistook the Toa for imposters and motioned to assault them on the slope of Mount Valmai. With Toa Gali notably struck by an energy bolt launched from Dalu's Power Chargers, the Toa became increasingly divided, though Toa Kopaka was able to end the battle by flash-freezing the Matoran, allowing Toa Onua an opening through which to authenticate the Toa Nuva as real Toa. Venturing into the Piraka Stronghold with the Matoran Resistance Team, Dalu accompanied her fellow Matoran and the Toa Nuva on one final assault, which ended in the swift and decisive victory of the Piraka owing to the intervention of Brutaka, a former Order of Mata Nui operative who had defected to aiding the Piraka.
As the only combatant not to be rendered unconscious by the assault, Dalu managed to slip away, intent on returning to free her allies once she had recuperated. Tracked down by Zaktan and Hakann, she narrowly managed to escape capture a second time, however, once the Piraka turned on each other.
Reconvening with her allies, who had managed to escape their own predicaments and free Garan from the Chamber of Truth, Dalu encountering the Toa Inika and helped facilitate an alliance with the newly-transformed Toa, who had been loyal compatriots of the Toa Nuva.
Launching a coordinated attack on each facet of the Piraka's operation, Dalu partnered with Piruk, Toa Jaller, and Toa Hahli, traveling to Mount Valmai intent on freeing the enslaved Matoran from their captivity. Equipped with modified Zamor Launchers capable of purging the Antidermis infection, Dalu notably argued with Toa Hahli during the liberation of the Matoran, perceiving the Toa of Water to be excessively passive and lacking the necessary motivation to truly empathize with the Matoran. Once they had completed their objective, Dalu and her allies joined the Toa Inika on their ensuing assault of the Piraka Stronghold.
With the Toa Inika regrouping to occupy the Piraka Stronghold with the help of Axonn, Dalu accompanied the other five members of the Matoran Resistance Team once again infiltrated the Piraka Stronghold, this time venturing deep into its dungeons and finally finding the Toa Nuva. Under the effects of the same Antidermis that had enslaved the Matoran of Voya Nui, the Toa were rendered incapable of independent thought and had been instructed to channel their Elemental Powers into a deep chasm beneath the Piraka Stronghold. Using a Zamor Launcher developed by Velika, the Matoran were able to free the Toa from their enslavement and return the Kanohi Nuva, allowing their depleted Elemental Energy reserves to begin replenishing.
Once the Toa Inika had defeated Vezon in the Chamber of Life, the Kanohi Ignika submerged itself in the Cape of No Hope, prompting the young Toa to set off in search of it once again. With the Piraka defeated, Dalu and her fellow Matoran Resistance Team members would come to busy themselves with repairs.
Abilities and Traits[]
Unlike most Ga-Matoran, Dalu did not posses an empathetic or peaceful nature, often privy to outbursts and brazen behavior. Despite her temper, however, Dalu had tremendous faith in Garan, respecting the Onu-Matoran as leader of the Matoran and willing to set aside her own feelings to achieve a common goal.
Able to access the vestiges of dormant Elemental Water Energy, Dalu possesses a natural affinity towards marine climates, boasting a higher lung capacity than the average Matoran.
Tools[]
Gifted to her by Karzahni following her reconstruction, Dalu wielded a pair of Chargers, powerful melee weapons capable of launching a Psionic bolts that could radically increase a target's senses, often driving them to a state of madness.
Following her reconstruction on Karzahni, Dalu was issued with a Powerless Kanohi Rau in place of her original Mask. While inoperable, she wore this Kanohi throughout her time on Voya Nui.
