The Kanohi Calix is the Mask of Fate, a Kanohi that allows its bearer to perform physical feats.

History

The Kanohi Calix traces its origins back to some of the earliest mask-making techniques adopted on Spherus Magna, where an unclear number of Calix masks were created for the Matoran populace. At this point in the history of the Matoran Universe, the Calix became heavily associated with Le-Matoran, who held the mask up as a symbol of their elemental discipline.

Over the 100,000 year span of the Matoran Universe's functionality, the Calix became a moderately wide-spread Kanohi. In Metru Nui it could be crafted with relative ease using Teleport, Reconstitute at Random, and Weaken disks, usually originating from Ko-Metru or Po-Metru. Requiring specific Kanoka disks to manufacture, the Calix was a typically uncommon mask in Metru Nui, with only a handful of Mask Makers capable of crafting it successfully.

Awarded to him by Karzahni, Toa Jaller would later liberate Voya Nui with the Toa Inika whilst bearing an organic Kanohi Calix.

How exactly the Kanohi Calix allowed a user to perform incredible stunts has been a subject of prolonged debate. The two most plausible theories were that the Calix either boosted the overall physical prowess and metabolic rate of the bearer passively, or it activated during moments of danger by inducing a burst of adrenaline.

The former school of thought therefore defined the powers of the Calix as an overall physical enhancement for the wearer. The Kanohi was always on at a low power and the more well-trained you were, the better the Calix would serve. The latter defined the Calix as a mask that activates purely on subconscious instinct. It sent adrenaline coursing through the body of the user during adverse situations, thereby boosting the overall physical performance of the individual during that singular instant, regardless of their previous physical condition or prowess.

Noble

The Noble Calix was almost never seen in action as Turaga rarely engage in combat or situations where the Calix is needed. The Noble version of this mask allowed a Turaga to run extremely fast for short periods of time, almost comically fast seeing as they were often diminutive and frail, and heightened their ability to dodge projectiles.
