Cahlra Nui is a large, heavily populated island continent that serves at the main setting for Surface Tension. It is located on the surface of Aqua Magna, far from any other landmasses. It is primarily populated by Matoran that have fled from other lands. Cahlra Nui's geography is highly industrialized, its surface separated into 7 large metropolitan "Distra" surrounded by areas of "Ruku" wilderness.
History[]
It is not yet known how Cahlra Nui came to be or who built its many districts. Presently, it is overseen by three Turaga: Kier, Shagatiku, and Ahnu.
Cahlra Nui serves as a place of refuge for Matoran all across the universe who have escaped various struggles and hardships. Matoran regularly emigrate to the island in search of safety and a brand new life. Turaga Kier is the overseer of all arrivals to the island and making sure they are properly integrated into their society.
Geography[]
6 Distra of Cahlra Nui are designated to groups of Matoran tribes, with the 7th serving as as a capital city and "melting pot" of all tribes of Matoran. Each Distra is located in it's respective terrain sharing a similar prefix.
Ta-Ruku[]
Ta-Ruku is located towards the south end of the continent, but north of Ga-Ruku. It includes the northernmost of the twin volcanos, where Tasu-Distra is located, as well as the surrounding Sundried Prairie, a flat region covered in dry grasses and prone to wildfires. Ta- and Su-Matoran are assigned here.
Ga-Ruku[]
Ga-Ruku is the southermost region of Cahlra Nui, and also includes the southern twin volcano. A massive underground hot spring fills the volcano with mineral water rather than lava. Gavo-Distra's hydroelectric power plant is built into the side of this mountain, making use of its flowing spring water. Ga- and Vo-Matoran are assigned here.
Le-Ruku[]
Le-Ruku is the home of Lebo-Distra and the surrounding forest along the eastern coastline. Le- and Bo-Matoran are assigned here.
Onu-Ruku[]
Onu-Ruku consists of a deep canyon located near the center of Cahlra Nui, and it contains many caverns and cave systems. Onufaba-Ruku is located at the canyon's floor. Onu-, Fa-, and Ba-Matoran are assigned here.
Po-Ruku[]
Po-Ruku consists of a large stretch of desert in the middle of the continent, making Pofe-Distra the most isolated city on the continent. Po- and Fe-Matoran are assigned here.
Ko-Ruku[]
Ko-Ruku encompasses the northernmost region of Cahlra Nui, consisting of many fjords along the coastline and icy cliff sides. It is described as a place of incredible stillness, where the Rahi are scarce and hushed, and even the crashing waves seem subdued to a whisper. Kocede-Distra is the only thing breaking up the otherwise uniform landscape. Ko-, Ce-, and De-Matoran are assigned here.
Cahlra-Distra[]
On the western coast of the island is Cahlra-Distra, serving as the main hub of Cahlra Nui. Matoran immigrants arrive here before integrating into the public and being sent to their new homes. The Turaga of the island also make their home there.
