History[]
The Kanohi Avsa is believed to have been part of the later waves of Masks. Following The Awakening—where a Great Being under the alias of Velika removed coding that limited development of sapience—new ideas for Mask powers were presented to the general populace. Inspired by the Rahkshi power of Hunger, the designers created a Mask that could steal and absorb the energy (both physical and Elemental) of a target.
Tests with the mask revealed that it could also siphon the positive emotions of targets. A startling discovery was that it could drain one of their "inner-light" as some researchers called it. Those who are low or devoid of this trait demonstrated looser morals or a lack thereof. The test subject for the latest discovery turned on the scientists involved, however, and killed at least half of the staff involved. Shaken by this turn of events, most records of the Avsa were destroyed.
One of the surviving researchers didn't wish for the Avsa to fade into obscurity and thus leaked its schematics to the world. Many Mask Making organizations—such as the Nynrah Ghosts and Xians—would obtain these blueprints and began forging them. These Kanohi would often find their way into hunters of all types. After seeing its effects in public, the Matoran populace would consider this Mask immoral. Onu-Matoran, in particular, developed an intense distaste of the Avsa, considering it the antitheses of their Principle of Prosperity.
By the time Turaga Dume rose to power in Metru Nui, it became heavily associated with the Rahkshi due to its origins. This reputation of the Mask convinced Dume to outlaw production and importations of it in Metru Nui. 14,000 years later, Makuta Teridax would capture and impersonate him, uplifting the ban on Immoral Kanohi.
Unfettered by the restraints of the Matoran conscience, Makuta Vamprah was known to have worn a Great Avsa as his signature Kanohi.
Example Usage[]
Vamprah used his Avsa to drain the Av-Matoran Radiak of his inner-light, transforming him into a Shadow Matoran.

Trivia[]
- Many Dark Hunters joke that the best way to rile up an Onu-Matoran was to flash an Avsa in front of their face. Of course, the last one to do so with fellow Hunter Subterranean was dismantled by his powers.
