Archaic Matoran, also known as Ancient Matoran or Primeval Matoran, was a rare language endemic to the western Southern Island chain of the Matoran Universe.
History
While Archaic Matoran's origins are currently unknown, it can be presumed from its name that it predates the Matoran language. Linguists on Powai Nui theorize that the language was invented by one of the Great Beings, and the common consensus between the island's scholarly circles was that it was Jayniss who created it. Supposedly, it was created to test the limits of using a programming language to code a biomechanical being during the early stages of the creation of the Matoran.
The Shrine of Salvation, which was created by the Dark Hunter "Alchemist", operates through orders spoken in Archaic Matoran. It is unknown if "Alchemist" was created knowing the language or if he learned it. This question is studied by Powai Nuian scholars as well, seeing as the Dark Hunter's affiliations with the island have been short-lived and the device did not appear on the island until he arrived.

Trivia
- Originally, Archaic Matoran resembled a fusion between Nordic languages and Latin and included many more accented characters. It was then changed to supericially resemble a Native American language. Cap designed its current form to more closely resemble the Matoran language (which, in turn, is greatly inspired by the Māori language), with hints of inspiration from the Slavic languages, Spanish, and Japanese.
