A Call from Shadows is a short story which extrapolates what happened to Turaga Dazix during his time on Slaxar Nui. The story was a contest entry, and is considered non-canon.

Story[]

Chapter 1 : S.O.S.[]

Dazix had left the catacombs three days after the departure of Yiolu, as he sometimes did to unwind after periods of hard work. He had taken a backpack, his staff and a tent, and then left their hiding place, their home, saying:

"I will be back in 5 days, a week at most."

After some walking, he had decided to set up camp near a forest, where he had pitched his tent and established a small fireplace.

It had been three days since Dazix arrived here. Awakening after a good night's sleep, he left his tent. The day was already well advanced, and Rahi started their daily routine all around. Like every morning, Dazix went to get some water in a nearby river, when he heard a seemingly far-away voice shouting:

"Is... someone there? Please... Help me... I need someone..."

The Turaga looked for where the voice came from, to rescue whoever it belonged to. He soon found a cave entrance, and again heard the voice coming from there:

"Help... I... need someone..."

Dazix created a ball of light with his staff and entered the cave. He walked and walked but saw nothing, so he called:

"I am Turaga Dazix! Is someone there? I heard a call!

- Please... Dazix... Hurry up... Otherwise, you will be... in great... danger..."

Dazix didn't even have time to answer that he stumbled onto something on the ground. It was a leg. A very long leg. The Turaga looked up and discovered who it belonged : he was standing in front of a tall being, who was at least twice his size, a red Krana Vu covering their face. This made Dazix anxious:

"Who are you?

- I'm... Taravas. It is I... who called."

Chapter 2 : Some explanation[]

A Krana-wearer who delibarately seeked the help of a Turaga, of Light in top of that, was strange, but Dazix thought it was his duty to help those in need, even if said people in need were part of the swarm. He said:

"What happened to you? Why do you need my help?

- Well... I'll explain... everything, but can you... give me some water first?"

Dazix gave his gourd to Taravas. The being drank every drop that remained.

"Thank you so much. I... was a long time ago a Lakalo, a peaceful species from another place. One day, our island was attacked... by a Bohrok army, and some of us were contaminated by Krana. The Krana gradually took control of our body... and mind. But, every so often, the Krana seem to partially let go of their custody on our minds and, unintentionally, give us a slight respite. That's why I haven't... killed you yet and I asked for your help.

- How could I help? I cannot destruct your Krana. I don't have enough power, I'm a Turaga!

- I know, little one. I want you... to kill me.

- What? No! I cannot do that! You have proven me just now that there was still someone behind the Krana.

- It's the only way to save me... Please, Dazix. Hurry up! The Krana can regain control anytime!

- No... I can try to save you. I can bring you back...

- This is the only... ARGH!"

The Lakalo twisted and turned in every direction, holding his head in his hands. Dazix was thrown into a nearby room. Suddenly, Taravas calmed down and slowly lifted his head to the Turaga:

"You want this little Turaga to kill you? Hahaha, I believe... that the roles will be reversed."

Chapter 3 : Fire and Light[]

The being launched a huge fireball towards Dazix. It missed him by an inch and exploded against the cave wall behind him.

"Taravas? What is happening?!

- The Krana... Shut up! ...regains control... Fly! No, stay here you dirty little Turaga, I feel like a sudden urge to experiment some new powers on you..."

Aware that this enemy was much stronger than he was, Dazix ran. He ran through the galleries, to the exit. But a stronger explosion than the previous one blocked the exit with huge rocks.

"Hahaha, are you trying to escape? Pathetic."

Dazix changed his course and ran between the legs of the giant to avoid another fireball, then ran into another gallery, closely followed by a trail of flames. He ran for several minutes, looking for another exit while avoiding the attacks of Taravas. Seeing that the Lakalo arrived, he threw a light boomerang against the wall behind him to make it collapse and slow down his attacker. He kept running, when he suddenly found a way out. But upon leaving the cave, he heard a thud and turned: the giant was right there.

"You thought you could stop me with your pebbles? I believed the Turaga more intelligent. I'm sorry, it's time to die. Please! Kill... ARH!"

Dazix had to do something. He concentrated what little power he still had in his boomerang and threw it right into the Krana. At the same time, the Krana fired a powerful beam of fire. The two energies met and a huge explosion occured. Dazix was thrown out of the cave. Before fainting, he only had time to hear a very small:

"Thanks..."

Epilogue: A message for the Turaga[]

Dazix woke up on a bed in an underground room. Apparently, he had returned to the catacombs. A Matoran of Iron was sitting beside the bed. He asked:

"You're up! Are you alright?

- Where... where am I?

- I brought you back to the catacombs. I found you lying in the grass near a collapsed cave. You were in pretty bad shape. Anyway... We received a message for you.

- Thank you, for everything. Could you leave me alone, please?

- 'Course. Have a good day."

The Matoran left the room. Dazix grabbed the message and began to read. It came from the Overhang, a place we once called home. It said that a group of strange rotted beings had been seen near the village, and the bottom of the message was... burned. Dazix stood up.

"I think it's time to return home."

Trivia[]

  • This story was DarknessApogee's entry for ToaTusk's Into The Rot Writing Contest. ToaTusk has now erased all personal traces of Into The Rot and Dazix on this wiki, so DA kept the story up only as a souvenir, although he himself deleted almost all his previous articles.
  • This story was also DA's first one on this wiki. Since it was released in 2014, it no longer matches neither DA's universe nor style. Indeed, the first draft of A Call from Shadows was full of mistakes, relating to either grammar, spelling or even understanding of the BIONICLE lore. The author has subsequently tried his best to correct these mistakes while remaining faithful to what he had in mind at the time.
